選擇連接詞 Alternative Conjunction
選擇連接詞是在兩個事物中選擇一個時使用的連接詞，例如「or」、「either 甲 or 乙」。

或
or表示「…或…」，例如「甲or乙」表達「不是甲就是乙」的意思。
- Whick do you like better, coffee or tea ?
  你比較喜歡喝咖啡還是茶？
- Either you or I am wrong.
  不是你錯了，就是我錯了。
祈使句 + or
「祈使句 + or」表示要不然，這形式中的or連接詞可換成「otherwiese」、「or else」。
- Hurry up, or you well be late.
  快點，不然你就遲到了。
也就是說

or 表示「也就是說」、「換句話說」，引導至更合理的說法。
- He is majoring in geology, or the science of the earth's crust.
  他正在主修地質學，也就是研究地殼的科學。
否定句
or用於否定句，代表全部否定。
- I am not good at baseball or basketball.
  我對棒球和籃球都不擅長。
either 甲 or 乙

「either 甲 or 乙」代表選擇對等的連接詞，甲跟乙的詞性必須要相同。
- Either you or your teacher is mistaken.
  不是你錯了，就是你的老師錯了。

折扣、百分比

折扣百分比

百分比表示法
百分比的寫法可用「阿拉伯數字＋%」來表示，讀法是用「基數詞＋per cent」，per cent 美式用法常寫成 percent。
- 14% → fourteen percent 百分之十四
  30% → thirty percent 百分之三十
某數值的百分之幾

表達某數值的百分之幾，「基數詞＋ percent ＋ of ＋基數詞」。
想把答案一起寫出，則使用「基數詞＋ percent ＋ of ＋基數詞＋ is ＋基數詞」
- Four percent of fifty is two.
  五十的百分之四等於二。
含小數點的百分比

含小數點的百分比，小數點讀為point，後面一樣加上percent。
0.5要讀成half of one。
- 百分之零點五
  0.5%
  half of one percent
  point five percentzero point five percentnought point five percent
- 4.21% → four point two one percent 百分之四點二一
折扣
折扣在中英文的呈現方式不同，我們說的九折，在英文是百分之十，可以簡單寫成「10% off」。
折扣的英文單字是discount，含數字的形式為「基數詞＋percent＋discount」。
- 四折 → a sixty percent discount → 60% off
  七五折 → a twenty-five percent discount → 25% off

half 的用法

當形容詞

half當形容詞去接名詞時，名詞若需要加冠詞或所有格時，使用下面形式：
half ＋a/an ＋名詞half ＋the ＋名詞half ＋所有格＋名詞
- It still wants half an hour till midnight .
  還有半小時才到午夜。
當名詞
- The half of ten is five.
  十的一半是五。
當副詞
- The little girl was half dead from hunger.
  那個小女孩已經餓得半死了。

dozen的意思是一打，也就是十二個的意思。
- I want a dozen umbrellas.
  我要一打雨傘。
score 二十scorce代表二十。
「聖經．詩篇」第九十章有說 The years of our life are three score and ten，三個二十年加十年是七十年，這句話的意思是我們的人生有七十年，所以七十年可以代表一輩子。
- I'll love you three score years and ten.
  我會愛你一輩子。
- He has written more than a score of books.
  他寫了超過二十本書。
gross 籮、十二打

gross代表籮，一籮等於十二打，合計一百四十四個。
gross的單複數同形。
- There are three gross of candles in the church.
  
  教堂裡有兩籮蠟蠋。
